Register now for NACIS 2026!

Log in to our website with your NACIS account to register at the member or student rate. If you’re not already a member, consider joining! Non-members can also register. Register by October 4th to receive an early-bird discount. Visit the meeting page to register and for more information about the conference. Don’t forget to book your hotel room early, as our room block often sells out quickly.

Conference schedule

The preliminary conference program is now available. NACIS 2026 will feature more than 100 Main Conference talks, 25 Practical Cartography Day talks, three panels, four Birds of a Feather sessions, two workshops, and a field trip!

Conference details

Attention presenters: Acceptance emails were sent out July 28th. Please confirm your participation by replying to the acceptance email by August 10th. Carefully review your abstract in the preliminary schedule and make sure it’s no more than 100 words long, or we’ll edit it for you. How it appears in Sched is how it will appear in the print program! If you didn’t receive an acceptance email or you have edits to your abstract, please email veep@nacis.org.
Please remember that presenters are required to register for PCD (if presenting on Wednesday) and for the Main Conference (if presenting on Thursday or Friday).

The deadline for Map Gallery submissions and Student Print and Dynamic Map Competition entries is August 31st.

The keynote panel will celebrate the work and legacy of Karen Wynn Fonstad, including The Atlas of Middle-Earth for J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. The panel will begin with short presentations from the distinguished guests listed below, followed by questions from the moderator and audience. On Saturday, there will be a field trip to the American Geographical Society Library at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee to view the maps in the collection.

Tiny Maps Returns

Last year’s Tiny Maps Gallery was a lot of fun, and we heard from a lot of folks who wished they’d created one. You’re in luck – we’re doing it again this year!

The rules:

Map must be 4″ x 6″, (standard postcard size, portrait or landscape).
Map must be able to be pinned to the foamboard (so no heavy media)

To keep the display tidy, please don’t make it larger or smaller than 4×6. If your map is smaller than that, please create it on a 4×6 ground.

If this sounds like fun, please submit your map via the gallery form by August 31st with the title Tiny Map Display: <name of map>, and we’ll know to include it.

The NYS GIS Association invites you to the 2026 New York State Geospatial Summit, which is being held in Skaneateles, NY this year on October 6th and 7th.

Call for participation: Ethics in Cartography

The ICA Commission on Ethics in Cartography invites everyone to participate in the third session of our summer workshop series: Mapping Ethical Landscapes in Cartography. You can participate in this workshop live online or anytime that is convenient for you.

The ultimate goal is to share a set of value statements, real-world examples in which they apply to the work cartographers do, and frameworks into which they can be placed. With this approach, we aim to offer resources that can guide practical decision-making and help cartographers better navigate ethical landscapes in cartography.

The workshop will be on Tuesday, September 2. For more information and details from our previous sessions, see our website. You can also join our Google Group to get email updates. We hope you can join us!
