About NACIS

The North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS), founded in 1980, is an organization of cartographers, map librarians, and other geospatial professionals. Our focus is on building opportunities for collaboration between our members, enabling them to advance cartographic design, technology, and research. We also spread our knowledge beyond our membership, and work to help improve graphical literacy and geospatial understanding among the public.

NACIS holds an Annual Meeting each year, featuring presentations on all aspects of geospatial work.

Cartographic Perspectives, the journal of NACIS, is published three times per year, and features a mix of peer-reviewed research, practical tips, book reviews, and more. NACIS also publishes the Atlas of Design, a biennial anthology of some of the world’s best current cartography. Chosen by a panel of experts from a global competition, it is a showcase of some of the most beautiful and intriguing ideas in mapmaking today.
