Announcing the NACIS Mentor Program


Love sharing your passion for maps and want to contribute to NACIS? Or do you wish you could learn more about how to navigate the professional mapping world toward a career? We have the program for you!

We’re renewing the NACIS Mentor Program, where experienced NACIS members will be paired with early-career or mid-career members for a series of virtual conversations over six months (March – August 2026). Participation is free for active NACIS members.

To volunteer as a mentor or participate as a mentee, log into the NACIS website, review the program details, and complete the application form. The more detail you include on the application, the higher the likelihood that the Mentor Program coordinators will provide a good match.

Deadline to apply: February 17, 2026. Pairing announcements will be emailed out in early March. 
 

Nominations for the NACIS Board are now open! Members are encouraged to self-nominate or nominate colleagues who are passionate about contributing to the cartography community. Serving on the Board is an opportunity to help shape the organization’s direction, support a welcoming community, and ensure NACIS continues to thrive and evolve. Learn more about what it’s like to be a board member at large. 

If you know someone who would be a great fit (including yourself), we hope you’ll take a moment to submit a nomination. Deadline: January 31st.

Mark your calendar – the next NACIS conference will be at the Hyatt Regency in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 21-24. Stay tuned for more details. 
 

NACIS membership rates


As announced in our November newsletter, NACIS membership rates have increased as of January 1, 2026.
  • General member: $75
  • Student member: $35
  • Affiliate / institutional member: $125
As part of this update, all subscriptions had to be re-set in our database to manual renewal. Please be on the lookout for your renewal email this year, so you can be sure to keep an active membership and receive your member benefits.
 

CaGIS Map Design Competition


Last call to enter maps completed or published in 2025 in the annual CaGIS Map Design Competition. Entries must be received by January 31, 2026. See the CaGIS website for information and instructions, as well as a gallery of past winners. There is no fee to enter.
