We’d like to get your feedback on your experiences at the annual meeting so that we can learn, grow, and continue to make the Society better. The post-conference survey will be sent to attendees’ inboxes soon. It should take about 10-15 minutes to complete and all responses are anonymous. We’ll use your input to help plan and improve our next meeting in Tacoma, WA, in October 2024.

2023 bylaw votes

On Thursday, October 12th, at the Annual Business Meeting in Pittsburgh, NACIS members overwhelmingly voted in favor of two proposed changes to the NACIS bylaws.

The first measure, which replaces all occurrences of gendered pronouns with the gender-neutral “they,” received 98% approval from the members present. This change will help us in our commitment to make NACIS as inclusive for everyone as possible.

The second measure, which strikes the three-year term limit on student memberships, received 99% approval from all members present. This change will help our younger and newer members stay engaged in the Society by ensuring they do not lose access to reduced membership rates and conference registration fees, travel grants, student competitions and awards, and eligibility to run for the student board member position.

We are genuinely appreciative of every member who cast their votes on these changes to the bylaws. Your active participation in the Society is what keeps us strong, and ensures that all of our members’ voices are heard.

We look forward to seeing you all again in Tacoma,

Brooke Marston
President of NACIS

CP logoWe are working on a special issue of Cartographic Perspectives on cartography and ethics and we want your contribution. We’re seeking short case studies (1000-3000 words), instances from personal experience grappling with ethical issues in the field. We are more interested in how you dealt with the issue(s), than in ethical codes or theories. Of course, feel free to generalize and anonymize as necessary. We need all contributions in hand by January 20 (full CFP). Please let us know ASAP if you are interested in contributing, and if you have any questions. Thank you!
