Seeking nominations for board members

Nominations are still open for three Directors at Large and the four-year NACIS presidential track. You can nominate yourself or someone else. Whether you are a longtime member or new to our society, we value your voice and the perspective you can bring to the board. Help ensure that our leadership reflects the diversity of our membership! The deadline for nominations is March 31st.

After the deadline, the Nominations Committee will reach out to all nominees to confirm their interest and request a biography and candidate statement for the ballot. The election will occur in September, and the candidates with the largest number of votes will be elected. All candidates will be notified of the election results prior to the annual meeting.

Serving as a Director at Large is a two-year commitment. Directors participate in virtual and in-person board meetings throughout the year, serve on committees, help organize the annual conference and other NACIS events, and perform outreach. Our volunteer board is in constant need of new faces, energy, and ideas to keep the organization healthy.

Please reach out to the Nominations Committee or any current or former board member if you have questions about the Director at Large position or the nominations process.

Book reviews needed

Cartographic Perspectives would like to encourage all NACIS members to consider writing a book review for the journal. Reviewers work with the editorial team to craft informative reviews of books across the spectrum of cartography and mapping. We mail books to reviewers free of charge, and you can find instructions and a list of currently available books online. If you’re interested in writing a review of a book not listed, please reach out to the editor, Jim Thatcher.

We’d like to particularly encourage non-traditional academics and students to write a review, and will provide any guidance you need.
