Voting is open for the 2023 NACIS election

Every year, NACIS holds an election to fill vacant Board seats and as usual, we have a slate of highly qualified candidates for you to choose from. If you’re an active member of the Society, please cast your vote today. Voting ends at 11:59pm Pacific Time on Oct 6th.

Conference schedule and registration

The preliminary conference program is available online. Log in to our website with your NACIS account information to register at the member or student rate. If you’re not already a member, consider joining! Non-members can also register. Saturday, September 30th is the deadline to receive the early-bird discount.

Get your NACIS 2023 conference t-shirt

Conference t-shirts are now available for purchase in the NACIS Shop. Unisex and women’s shirts are available in two colors. All proceeds go to supporting popular NACIS initiatives including travel grants, awards, and recording presentations for our YouTube channel. Order your swag soon to receive it before the annual meeting. T-shirts will also be sold at the conference. Have an idea for a mappy t-shirt? Submit a design for consideration.

NACIS membership census

NACIS is conducting an anonymous census of its entire membership and we hope you’ll volunteer a few minutes of your time to help our community. This census differs from our post-conference survey, as it’s for all members, not just those who are at any given conference. Our goal is to understand the identities and experiences of our NACIS community. This survey takes approximately 10 minutes or less, and all questions are optional and your answers are anonymous.  We hope to repeat this census regularly, so that we can also view how NACIS changes over time. Many thanks to Daniel Huffman for putting this census together.

Hotel reservations

There are no more discounted rooms available in our block at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square. If you booked a room and can no longer attend, please contact [email protected] before canceling your reservation with the hotel. If you would like to be waitlisted in the event a room becomes available, please reach out to the NACIS business managers at [email protected]. Being waitlisted does not guarantee you will get a room, and we encourage you to explore other lodging options. You can still book your stay at the standard daily rate online or by calling the hotel directly at (412) 261-2000.

Don’t miss this year’s keynote!

To launch the 43rd Annual Meeting of NACIS, author Peng Shepherd joins us to share her experience writing The Cartographers, a mystery novel based on a 1930’s map containing a New York phantom settlement which took on a life of its own. She will discuss what the journey taught her about writing fiction and creating maps, and how the two disciplines are much more similar than they might first appear.

Saturday workshops & field trip

When you register for the conference, add one of the post-conference mapping workshops. This year, learn about improving accessibility in maps with GreenInfo Network or engage in hands-on exercises to improve your interactive web maps with Map Viewer and ArcGIS StoryMaps. Space is limited so reserve your spot soon.
