Our 41st Annual Meeting (and first ever hybrid conference) was a great success. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the open and friendly culture of our Society.

If you attended, please take this short survey and tell us about your hybrid conference experience, good and/or bad. We take our members’ input very seriously and rely on it to shape next year’s Annual Meeting.

We’ve added recordings of conference presentations to our YouTube channel. Catch up on sessions you missed, re-watch your favorite talks, and share the videos with your friends.

Cartographic Perspectives is seeking a new Editor

Cartographic Perspectives logoThe NACIS Board welcomes expressions of interest in the Editor position for NACIS’s scholarly publication, Cartographic Perspectives. We seek a candidate who appreciates the breadth of cartographic scholarship. The Editor is appointed by the NACIS Board and is an ex-officio (non-voting) member of the Board. We’re open to considering either a sole Editorship or a co-Editorship model. If you are interested in the latter, all co-Editors should submit their application as a team.

The Editor position requires a three-year commitment beginning January  1 2023, with a preceding one-year period shadowing the existing Editor before assuming the role. The aim of this shadowing period is to ensure a smooth transition between Editors.

The role of Editor includes a range of tasks, including the appointment of the Editorial Board, filling the roles of any open Section Editor positions, guiding papers submitted to the peer-reviewed paper section through the scholarly review process, and taking responsibility for the final decisions on what is published in the journal. There is a small stipend associated with the role, which may be used at the Editor’s discretion to support the work of the journal. The Editor also has the support of an Assistant Editor who undertakes copy-editing and layout for pieces accepted to the journal.

To express interest in the Editor position, please submit a one-page statement and a CV by 17 November 2021 that includes a statement of your vision for the future of the journal and a short description of your past experience with editorial roles. This could include editing of special issues of a journal, scholarly books, or other publications. Any questions about the editorial role can be posed to the current Editor, Amy Griffin.
