Annual Meeting reminders

NACIS 2021 is now a hybrid conference, with participation in the October 13th-16th event welcome in Oklahoma City or from wherever you are mapping! Be sure to submit a proposal for a presentation at Practical Cartography Day or the Main Conference, or perhaps a Saturday workshop or field trip by the June 30th deadline. Details on the conference and the submission process can be found on our website.

Register for the Map Gallery

Print maps and virtual maps will be part of a gallery of the very best maps and other cartographic displays that our organization has to offer, and we want you to be a part of it. Dabblers and professionals alike are encouraged to submit their work for display in our Map Gallery at NACIS 2021. Registration is open now and entries must be received by August 31. Questions about the Map Gallery? Please contact us at [email protected].

Student Competitions

Students can enter their work and win cash prizes in both the Student Dynamic Map Competition and the Student Map and Poster Competition. There are two awards for each competition and we encourage all students to participate! Please visit our website for information and registration forms. Questions? Please email [email protected].

Travel and/or Participation Grants

At NACIS 2021, we will be awarding travel grants to assist those who may need help attending the conference, whether it’s in person or virtually. Applications are now open to apply for Travel and/or Participation Grants. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis starting June 30, 2021. Additionally, in accordance with NACIS’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, at least 20% of all budgeted travel grant awards will be prioritized for individuals from minority or underrepresented groups.

Undergraduate Student Scholarship applications due June 30th

The NACIS Student Scholarship in Cartography awards an annual scholarship to an accomplished undergraduate student who is majoring in geography or a closely related field while concentrating their course work in cartographic or visualization design or research. Please visit the Scholarship page for details. Questions about the scholarship or application process? Email [email protected]

Slack archiving

In anticipation of NACIS 2021, the Communications team will be archiving NACIS 2020 Slack channels and content. If you bookmarked anything or want to refer back to notes, please visit before July 2. Due to the prohibitively high cost of Slack, older messages may have already been automatically archived under Slack’s free-tier limitations. Channels that have been less active since our last conference might also be archived for the sake of space. If you have favorite channels or ideas for new ones, please speak up in either the #board-public or #community channels.

Click here to join NACIS on Slack if you’re not already part of the conversation.
